What are some of the alternative treatments for Bipolar Disorder?
Medications aren’t working for me for many different reasons. I’ve heard people talk about alternative treatments, but I’ve looked it up and I haven’t really found anything. Anyone else know? And if you have personal experience with them please tell me about it.

your bipolar phases can be treated with psychotherapy
I don’t have first hand experience with bipolar, but I used to have a stepson who was bipolar (as well as ADHD). Trying to be a good parent to a child that simply can’t behave - even came close be being kicked out of preschool for behavior - is not an easy thing. But once he started taking medication, he became a different person. He was calm, you could actually talk with him and rationalize with him, he could focus in class, etc.
I would recommend finding another doctor rather than trying alternative treatments. You’re health and well being is just to important to risk on unproven or unreliable treatments.
you may need a more thorough exam and treatment to see if you got the right drugs for YOU and the right diagnosis It takes time effort and some trial and error to find what is right for you There is no real “alternative treatment” but lots of scams to try to get your money for that so watch out! Continue trying to get the best care, follow through on your treatment do not give up too soon or let the illness trick you into thinking you don’t have it or dont need the treatment
There are no fully successful alternative treatments. Medication is the way to go. If you haven’t found the right meds, keep looking. If your doctor isn’t willing to go through the process with you find a new one. It can be an arduous process, but it’s worth it when you do find the right meds.
You need to get your ethics in. I have been diagnosed as bipolar. There is NO SUCH THING!! I am living proof this is a made up disorder. I have been promiscuous and lied a lot to my family, and try covering withholds up that I don’t want anyone to find out. This has caused me to have ‘ups and downs’. You may have overts of omission or withholds that you need to get off your chest. (These are just like sins or confessions).. that EVERYONE has.
I am using Ethics technology from Scientology to help me realize what I have been doing or more importantly NOT doing to make me have ‘highs and lows’.
It is a lack of responsibility and awareness that makes us have ups and downs.
I would recommend you find a Church of Scientology and talk to someone about helping you with an Ethics cycle.
I would also really recommend you find out more about the medications you are seeking.
There are clinical research studies that show inositol and folic acid to be helpful - if you go to the links below you can look at the evidece and see what doses to take (these are basically B vitamins).
Also, try Mood Charting, using the sample charts provided from the Harvard Bipolar research program. This sounds like a lot of work but really only takes a couple of minutes a day and will help you see your cycling patterns and learn what stressors and triggers you need to get on top of to avoid episodes.
The blog pages on this website also have a lot of info from recent press releases about alternative treatments that are showing good results.
I am a bipolar person and it has tken me a long time to find the combination of things that work for me. Don’t give up. Things can get better but you need to be proactive and take charge of your health and managing your recovery,
Also, have you tried lithium at low doses? Good luck and don’t quit - things will improve!
they now use DBT (Dialectical behavioral therapy) to help people with bipolar. it was first used to treat borderline personality disorder but has been found to also help a lot of people with bipolar disorder. I would talk with your doctor about having that as its very good and I would recommend it to anyone on meds or off meds. take care good luck
There are lots of alternatives–check out the “About” page on my blog (upper left corner). Meds didn’t work for me either.

There are lots of links to other sources of info on my about page.
Don’t give up.
